  • Our talented group of teachers come from rich and diverse backgrounds. From science, arts and crafts, to four-square, they do it all!  Their creativity, warmth, and respect for each other make RED the enriching and welcoming place it is each and every day.

      Executive Director

      This is Toby’s 16th year as Executive Director of RED. She holds dual BA degrees in Social Work and Psychology from the University of New Hampshire, as well as a Master’s degree in Education from Boston University. She’s worked in the field of education for over 30 years and can’t believe she’s that old. She loves to travel and can usually be found looking for the perfect beach or some way to sneak into first class. She’s also a competitive poker player, and a decent photographer but refuses to take a selfie. She’s honored to be a part of the lives of so many wonderful children here at Runkle.

      This is Matt’s 19th year at RED. Matt has his BS in Advertising and Psychology from Northern Arizona University, and his MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College in Vermont. He lives in Sudbury, MA with his wife, son and daughter. He enjoys writing, cooking, classic rock, and spending time in nature.

      Kiara is looking forward to her first year as a Honeybee teacher! She holds a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, and has a year of teaching experience under her belt. In addition to her role at R.E.D., Kiara is a practicing textile artist and yoga enthusiast.

      Carlee is beyond excited to be returning to the Honeybees this year! Outside of R.E.D., she is a Zumba instructor and has a passion for all things performing arts. Carlee strives to create an inclusive and safe environment where all children are free to explore, make mistakes, and learn from each experience through collaboration with both the staff and students. She is excited to create memories with the Honeybees that both she and the children will carry with them throughout their time at Runkle and beyond!

      Naomi is so excited to return for her third year as a honeybees teacher! Naomi grew up in Brookline where she attended the Pierce School and Brookline High School. She graduated Oberlin College in 2018 with a major in sociology and concentration in education, and has been back living in the Boston area since. She has been working with children in preschool, after school and summer camp settings for the past 10 years, and currently teaches with the Boston Outdoor Preschool Network in addition to her role at RED. Outside of work, you’ll probably find her playing the ukulele, reading mystery novels or playing with dog Sloppy Joe.

      Abby is looking forward to joining the Crickets this year! She has been a part of the Brookline community for a few years now, working in school and nonprofit settings. Abby holds a BA in Writing Literature and Publishing from Emerson College, as well as a Master’s degree in Middle and High School Education (English) from Lesley University. Outside of RED, you can find Abby working on her crosswords, enjoying a good meal with friends, or in the pottery studio, making tiny cups, bowls, and spoons for her loved ones.

      Maddy is so excited to be back at RED for her second year! Maddy grew up in Newton and attended Newton North High School. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a degree in Musical Theatre and performance studies. She has worked at many childcare programs around the Boston area. Artistically inclined, Maddy is passionate about fostering creativity in children of all ages. In her free time, she enjoys tending to her tomato plants, thrifting, writing music, observing nature, and cooking! Maddy can’t wait to see what exciting endeavors are in store for the Crickets this year!

      Brian is proud to be entering his seventh year as a Cricket teacher! He loves the program, and cherishes the opportunity to impact those in it. Outside of work, Brian likes to watch and play sports. He’s a big Celtics and Patriots fan. The most important thing to him is spreading love and being a good person.

      Julia is very excited to be back for her 6th year at RED! She graduated from UMass Amherst with a Bachelors in Environmental Science and from UNSW in Australia with a Masters in Conservation Biology. Since then, she has taught at zoos, aquariums, museums, and in classrooms around Boston and New York City. She spends her morning leading programs and field trips at the Boston Nature Center. Outside of work she can usually be found watching obscure science fiction, playing trivia, or complaining about how badly the Mets are doing.

      Daniel is very excited to return for his 8th year with RED as a member of the Dragonflies. Along with working at RED, Daniel is also entering his 5th year working at Runkle school as a Paraprofessional for the RISE program, which has helped him gain a deeper appreciation for the school and community. He enjoys sports, good food, watching documentaries and learning about blockchain technology. Daniel is excited to continue the good times and make this school year a blast!

      Beth is thrilled to be back at RED for a third year, and is really tickled to move with the 4th graders to the Dragonflies! She holds a BM in Instrumental Music Education. Past teaching positions include competitive marching band, private instrument lessons, and middle school band. She enjoys science fiction, delicious food, chonky animals, and info-dumping music history with her wife Briana. Beth is honored to be involved in building good humans at RED!
